Spring Voices Choir

Spring Voices Choir is the oldest choral collective of the Kharkiv. The choir was founded by Petro Yareshchenko in 1935 on the basis of the Kharkiv Regional Palace of Children and Youth’s creativity. The first tour of the group and the first television performances took place in the 1930s.

The choir was led by Serhiy Prokopov from 1974 to 2007, now he is Honored Worker of art of the Ukraine, professor, head of the department of choral conducting of the Kharkiv National University of Arts named after I. Kotlyarevsky. During these years Spring Voices Choir received the honorable title of “People’s Artist Collective”, won the Second All-Ukrainian Competition named after Mykola Leontovych, became a laureate of the third prize of the International Children’s Chorus Competition “Artek Stars”, and they won the Grand Prix of the First All-Ukrainian Festival of Choral Art “Youth of Ukraine is Singing”, they were touring in France, Bulgaria, Latvia, Poland, Russia. Serhiy Prokopov significantly expanded the choir’s repertoire: Spring Voices Choir sang not only songs but also academic music from the Renaissance to the present. Thanks to Serhiy Prokopov, Spring Voices Choir has become a choral studio, where children master the full program of musical school.

Spring Voices Choir was led by a student of professor Prokopov Julia Kravchenko in 2008-2012 years. The choir has been led by Oleksiy Fartushka since 2013, who is a graduate of the famous professor Agnesa Miroshnikova, the same as Serhiy Prokopov.

Today Spring Voices Choir consists of three choral groups: junior (Kraplynky Choir, a leader is Svitlana Tarasova), middle (Springbells Choir, a leader is Catheryna Rusanova) and senior group. An author’s program was developed for the choir members, which included piano course, theory and history of music, in addition to choral and academic solo singing. Graduates of the choir receive certificates that allow them to enter a specialized educational institution, thus to become professional musicians.

Professional choreographers work with choristers, the choir uses elements of modern scenography in their concert performances. That is why Spring Voices Choir acted quite organically in performances “Black Square”, “Glare Crescendo” (Kharkiv Philharmonic) and “Magic Night” (Skhid Opera, Kharkiv).

Spring Voices Choir successfully performs world premieres every year. M. Fomin, D. Maly, O. Shchetynsky, A. Manotskov, A. Krasiy, I. Pryhodko, K. Palachova have recently been written works especially for Spring Voices Choir.

Spring Voices Choir recorded 3 music albums, released their own music video for the song by Alexander Manotskov and Serhiy Zhadan “Swim, Fish”, published the score of Three Ukrainian songs by Anna Krasiy, created especially for Spring Voices Choir .

The choir received more than 60 prizes in different competitions and festivals. The lastests are: the Grand Prix of the Kharkiv “Battle of the Choirs”, the Grand Prix of the international competition “Constellation of Sviatohirsk”, the Grand Prix of the open festival-competition “Churaivna’s Song Wings” (Poltava), the title of laureate of the first degree of the international competition-festival “Musical Pearls” (Odessa).
