He graduated from the Rivne Music College and the Kyiv State Conservatory named after P.Tchaikovsky, specialty choral conducting (class of Professor, People’s Artist of Ukraine M. Krechko).
Olexandr Tarasenko’s art activity began in 1991 in Rivne, where he created and headed the “Resurrection” Bishops’ Choir of the Holy Resurrection Cathedral. Together with the “Resurrection” Choir O. Tarasenko became the Laureate of three Ukrainian and six International Competitions, he has been its permanent leader for 21 years.
Since 1992 he was a teacher of Rivne Music College. In 1997-2005 he was the head of the choral conducting department, conductor of the student choir of the College. 2005-2006 – Chief Conductor of the Choir of Students of the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P.Tchaikovsky. From 2006 to 2011 he was the lecturer, and from 2010 – Associate Professor, Head of the Choral Conducting Department of Rivne State Humanities University. In April 2011 he was selected as a Director of the Rivne Regional Philharmonic.
Since September 2012, he has been the choirmaster of the National Opera of Ukraine.
